Bible Resources

In 2020, I took a deep dive into learning theology and learning how to study the Bible. When the world shut down, it seemed like I had all the time to do more study, read my Bible more, do all the things that I felt like I never had time to do before.

2020 was a very big year for me in almost very faucet of my life. Not in the ways that you think. The world was crazy, bizarre, and changing but so was my heart, my personal life, and my own world. It was tough. It was so tough. God is good though and he used that time for pruning. He used that time for His glory. Now that we are in 2024, I see that 2020 was a catalyst year for me. I am where I am today because of 2020 and the things I did. Now that I have hindsight, I can see what was happening and how God was going to use the things I learned and the things I practiced to set up habits that still live on today. So today, I want to share all the resources that have personally helped me.

Journaling BibleI’m a note taker and I like to write out my thoughts, especially when I am reading my bible. If you look on Instagram you will see beautiful artists who create beautiful, awe-inspiring drawings and illustrations within the margins of those journaling Bibles. In fact, it deterred me away from journaling Bibles because I could never draw something on my Bible that would look good. I can barely draw a stick figure. Eventually though, I wanted space in the margins for writing. This was a huge game changer for me. Is my Bible filled with pretty illustrations? No. Is it filled with words and notes and cross references? Yes. Do I mess up sometimes? Yes, but that just helps remind me that I am human.

Study Bible—Yes, I have two separate Bibles. I’m actually starting a collection of Bibles, although that was unintentional. You can get a journaling study bible, that is actually what I have, or you can get a regular study Bible without expanded margins. While having two journaling Bibles might seem redundant, I need a Bible where I can separate studying. When I am doing my daily Bible reading or reading my Bible along with the pastor during church, I want a non-study Bible. I end up getting caught up in the footnotes too easily and end up skipping over the actual scriptures because I am fascinated by the context. My study Bible is for when I am doing a Bible study or actively studying the word, looking for context and explanations. I also use my study Bible for when I am writing Bible studies.

Blue Letter Bible—This website is a dream! It’s a little clunky so don’t be afraid to click around to find what you want. This website has commentaries, interliner references, maps, and dictionaries. It is my favorite website whenever I am studying God’s word. Bookmark this website, seriously.

The Bible Recap— This is where all my study started back in 2020. I had one goal at the start of 2020, I wanted to read the entire Bible. I heard about the Bible Recap from someone on Instagram and I committed to the yearly reading plan. What I love about the Bible Recap is that there is a daily podcast that gives context, backstory, and helps put the pieces together in the overall narrative of the Bible. This plan was how I started reading my Bible every day and committing to it.

The Daily Grace Co.—This is my favorite place to go for Bible studies. They also have cute faith merch, think accessories and home things. They also produce a podcast that is worth checking out. I do have a referral code that gets you $5 off if you want to use it. :)

She Reads Truth—I love their Bibles. The She Reads Truth Bibles are perfect for in-between a study Bible but offers a little more than a normal Bible. There are cross references, background information and little devotionals that are littered throughout the Bible.

Love, Scribe Curriculum—It would be a little silly to not mention what I offer for resources. I have the Walk the Talk Bible Study which goes over the Sermon on the Mount. I do have a free PDF that gives you the journal prompts I personally go through when I read and study my Bible. These prompts really helped me as I started to study God’s word and I hope it can help you too.

Regardless of what you use to study the Bible, the most important thing is that you are opening your Bible and reading it on a consistent basis. The whole point of reading your Bible is to learn more about God and who He is.

P.S. I am not an affiliate or ambassador for any of the resources listed on this post. These are the places I really go and the resources I actually use and they have shaped my Bible reading for the better. (The exception is anything you get from Love, Scribe Curriculum. That does help me out and supports my little business. The referral code for the Daily Grace Co earns me rewards points to use at Daily Grace Co.)
